I too have this issue so i talked to dell executive and they told me you system is ordered with 2666mhz ram (you can check on /support and input your service code and check specs of system) so even the default ram frequency is 3200mhz printed on ram there, but they are locked to use only upto 2666mhz. Now when you install another ram of 3200Mhz then both will work at 2666Mhz bcoz the default ram has locked till 2666Mhz only. This is bcoz they have locked it only till frequency of 2666mhz. If you open back cover and see the deafult ram then you will see the print over ram frequency is stated as 3200Mhz but in actual when you use the same ram in system you will only get frequency upto 2666mhz. In case of inspiron 3501 without external graphics card, Dell has actually locked their default ram came preinstalled with the system till 2666. Me too have Dell Inspiron 3501 but have i5 1135g7 without external graphics card.
